$1B Redevelopment of Osceola Heritage Park

Osceola Heritage Park may undergo a $1 billion renovation. City commissioners have approved selling or leasing parts of the complex, which serves as Central Florida's premier venue for concerts, sporting events, rodeos, and trade shows.

The Wilf family—owners of the NFL's Minnesota Vikings, Orlando City Soccer Club, and the Orlando Pride soccer team—proposed a mixed-use redevelopment dubbed Project Next.

Plans include an expanded headquarters, a training facility, and a soccer academy, as well as apartments, hotels, offices, restaurants, and retail space. The development would provide millions in annual tax revenue for Osceola County and hundreds of jobs.

Negotiations for the development agreement are expected to take three to six months. Once finalized and approved by county commissioners, site engineering and permitting will begin.

Shoppers to Spend Big This Holiday Season

The Florida Retail Federation (FRF) predicts that consumers will spend more than $900 per person on gifts, decorations, and other holiday-related items this year.

Retailers generate more than 20% of their annual sales during the holiday shopping season, which runs from October through the end of the year. More than half of all consumers are expected to shop online.

An FRF spokeswoman noted that shoppers are hunting for bargains this year, with spending projected to return to pre-pandemic levels. Florida retailers anticipate a 3% increase in spending over 2023 and are hopeful for record-breaking sales throughout the season.

Two Florida Towns Among Best for Christmas

Orlando and Santa Rosa Beach have been named among Travel + Leisure's "25 Best Christmas Towns in the U.S." You can see the full list here.

Orlando, known as the country's theme park capital, ranked No. 5 on the list as one of the most festive destinations for the holiday season. Walt Disney World's Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party was highlighted as a featured attraction.

Santa Rosa Beach ranked No. 11 for its white sand beaches and mild temperatures. The Seaside Holiday Market was mentioned as an ideal spot to shop for unique gifts.

The top three spots went to Aspen, Colorado; Ogunquit, Maine; and Vail, Colorado.
