FEMA Disaster Aid Still Needed in WNC FEMA will open three mobile disaster recovery centers in Buncombe County to provide one-on-one assistance to North Carolinians impacted by Hurricane Helene. The centers will be located at the Bernardsville Fire Department Station 15 from Dec. 2-5, the Fairview Public Library on Taylor Road from Dec. 6-10, and the Weaverville Town Hall on Main Street from Dec. 11-13. The deadline to apply for disaster unemployment assistance for counties in the hardest hit areas expired Dec. 2, but residents of Mecklenburg, Swain, Cabarrus, Cherokee, Forsyth, Graham, Iredell, Lee, Nash, Rowan, Stanly, Surry, Union, and Yadkin counties have until Dec. 9. FEMA has already paid out $1.4 billion in flood losses to more than 56,000 policyholders who filed claims following Helene’s landfall. |
