More than 45,000 port workers from Maine to Texas, including those in Savannah, have gone on strike following a stall in contract negotiations between the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) and the employer, United States Maritime Alliance.

Workers are demanding fair wages and benefits, arguing that their pay has stagnated despite rising profits for shipping companies.

The strike could impact nearly half of the nation's ports, disrupting the supply of various goods.

Despite the strike, the ILA has pledged to continue handling military cargo, and passenger cruise ships will remain unaffected.

A Fulton County Judge has struck down Georgia's six-week abortion law, allowing abortions up to 22 weeks. The judge cited the state constitution and a woman's right to liberty and control over her body.

Gov. Brian Kemp strongly disagreed with the ruling, stating that it overruled the will of Georgians and their representatives.

Kemp emphasized Georgia's commitment to protecting the unborn, criticizing the decision as reflecting personal beliefs rather than public consensus.

The attorney general plans to immediately appeal to the state supreme court, which previously upheld the law and may put the ruling on hold pending appeal.

Georgia students demonstrated strong improvement on the Georgia Milestones math tests, with scores rising on six of the seven assessments, including significant gains in eighth-grade math and high-school Algebra.

The math results, released in alignment with new standards implemented during the 2023-24 school year, reflect the first impact of these changes.

State School Superintendent Richard Woods expressed his gratitude. "I am extremely proud of Georgia students and our mathematics teachers and leaders."

The new math standards ensure clarity, age-appropriateness, and depth of understanding, allowing students to master key concepts.
