North Carolina lawmakers passed House Bill 149 Wednesday, authorizing $273 million in disaster relief for communities devastated by Hurricane Helene.

House Speaker Tim Moore and Senate Leader Phil Berger introduced the legislation, which focuses on the immediate needs of damaged communities.

At least 89 of 237 deaths associated with Helene occurred in North Carolina, including 11 members of a Buncombe County family who died after mudslides decimated their community.

Sen. Kevin Corbin (R-Macon) says impacted areas are receiving help and donations from across the country, amid criticism from Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance and others that FEMA’s response was lacking and/or delayed.

Legislators say this is just the start of more aid to come, and will reconvene Oct. 24 to take further action.

State politicians and elections officials are at odds over a GOP lawsuit challenging the validity of 225,000 voter registrations in North Carolina. The lawsuit, now in federal court, questions whether the voters provided enough information to register properly.

State and national GOP groups want the case moved back to the state level, but the North Carolina Board of Elections—backed by the Democratic National Committee—asked a federal judge to dismiss the suit, asserting that voters won’t have enough time to prove they are eligible to vote.

U.S. Chief District Judge Richard Myers will hold a hearing on Oct. 17 in Wilmington to further discuss the case.

A 34-year-old father and teacher from Graham is now the second person in the world to receive a BiVACOR Total Artificial Heart.

Donavon Harbison of Alamance County, a former offensive lineman at North Carolina Central University, lived with the titanium artificial heart for 10 days so he could regain enough strength to undergo a heart transplant at Duke University Hospital.

The device—powered by magnets—completely replaces a patient’s heart muscle and helps circulate blood throughout the body until a donor heart becomes available.

The first BiVACOR Total Artificial Heart was successfully implanted in a patient in July at the Texas Heart Institute as part of an FDA early feasibility study.

The Flyover

Did your mom ever tell you fruit is healthy? Mine too.

But I guarantee if your mother knew the damage a popular fruit does to your body, joints, and heart... she'd tell you NEVER eat this fruit again. You see, even though this fruit is marketed as being “healthy”... it actually contains a toxic nutrient your body sees as an "enemy."

So, every time you bite into this fruit...

Your immune system flags this “invader”... and unleashes its army of toxin killers. And since this nutrient enters your bloodstream once it’s digested...

Your immune system starts attacking even HEALTHY tissue and organs... causing burning in your joints, muscles, and even your heart.

And even if you HATE fruit and veggies... I can 99.9% guarantee you've eaten this fruit in the past week — probably without even knowing it.

Luckily, Dr. Brian Paris recorded a video revealing the deadly truth about this fruit (and four other common foods).
