UT Austin Tightens Admission Threshold

The University of Texas at Austin announced it will limit automatic admissions for in-state students to those in the top 5% of their high school class in 2026.

That's down from the current 6%, which has been in place since 2017.

The change comes after the school received a record-breaking 73,000 undergraduate applications for this fall. Last year, around 42,000 undergraduate students were enrolled at UT Austin.

Overturned Cattle Truck Kills 40 Cows

A cattle truck carrying 80 or so cows overturned on a bridge crossing I-30 in Arlington Monday evening, killing around 40 of them and blocking traffic in both directions.

One cow escaped the trailer and was hit and killed by another vehicle. A forklift was used to remove the dead cattle, while those that survived were loaded into other trucks.

Police say the driver—who was not hurt—misjudged how much space he needed to turn onto Baird Farm Road after exiting the interstate, causing the truck to flip over.

The intersection was cleaned by a hazmat crew before being reopened Tuesday morning.
