Hello, friend! Kathy here! I am so excited for today's newsletter because I get to chat about fave things: Shoes. Holidays. And Pie. Let's go. π Subscriber Exclusive Giveaway π "Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world." - Marilyn Monroe I truly believe that every girl needs a pair of rockstar-level, vegan leather boots in her closet. And I spent years looking high and low for the perfect vegan boots. Well, I found them in a little shop in Barcelona called Amapola Vegan Shop. If you are ever in Barcelona, put it on your list! I have a blog post about my trip there. And the shoes I found there: Bhava Editor Boots. They are super soft, lightweight, sturdy and comfortable as heck. I couldn't believe they were vegan. So anyways, cut to me wanting to share an amazing giveaway with you guys - of course, my first thought was - someone needs these shoes! I DM'd Bhava and here we are. So friend, enter this exclusive subscriber giveaway and best of luck. Boys, if you are bummed to feel left out, know that these shoes would be the most amazing gift for a beloved lady in your life. And if you are new to Bhava, check them out. (not-sponsored btw, I'm just a huge fan and they donated the prize. woo hoo!) π Holiday-E Oh Yeah, Oh Yeah π Thanksgiving week, here we come. My holiday guide right here. Print it out and be feast-ready. π₯§ Don't Forget the Pie π₯§ My fave holiday tip: Make a Pie. From scratch. Even if you hate cooking. Ha, I see YOU. You could literally order takeout, have your homemade pie, and feel like you've won at Thanksgiving. The aroma of pumpkin pie spice, vanilla and creamy pumpkin is just the best thing ever. And if you want a one-stop-shop vegan recipe for a simple Thanksgiving, make my famous Sweet Potato Pockets.
♡ Thanksliving ♡ Truth be told, I used to hate Thanksgiving.
It was that time of year when I would be the awkward vegan in a room full of relatives and probably a few strangers, and at some point during the festivities, be asked to talk about my "veganism." Come at me now with that inquiry and I will gladly engage as long as you'd like on the topic of modern veganism - in a positive, cool and kind way. But back then, I just wanted to hide in the rolls of my thick scarf, nibble on crackers and veggie sticks, get through dinner so I could plop back on the couch watching movies or football - and avoid being put on the spot. I felt very alone in my lifestyle choice. I just wanted to fit in, socially, as I did my entire childhood. But when it came to my vegan status as a young adult, I was the odd girl out. And that felt hard. But what I have realized through years of practice and skill-building, is that even when I'm the only vegan in the room, I don't feel alone. I have built up so many solid communities and relationships with my fellow plant-based buddies online and IRL that I truly never feel alone. I'm confident in who I am and my vegan status. I know that it feels good for me. Back then, I was constantly letting society tell me that maybe my vegan life was wrong. And sometimes I believed them. There is so much noise out there. And in-person criticisms, can feel excruciating to a new plant-based eater. The social dance is one we don't talk enough about. It's huge. We all want to belong. I definitely want to talk more about this with you guys. Stay tuned. So how did I find confidence?? I dug through all the chaos and noise and answered my own questions. Talked to my personal doctor. Checked sound research facts. Talked to friends who were further along in their veg journey. And suddenly, clarity! And with clarity, comes that confidence.
✔️ Always Judgement Free ✔️ And because I come from a childhood of eating whoppers at Burger King, chicken tacos and dairy ice cream - I never feel the need to judge people. Not everyone has found the awareness + tools + skills to be vegan. And some people just have different priorities. And that's ok. I get it. It takes work. It takes motivation. It takes a big life change. So each holiday break, when I get in front of non-veggie eaters, I try my best to spread peace and compassion through my conversations. Ok, that sounds a bit floofy, but when you watch your three year-old cuddling fluffy turkeys at Farm Sanctuary, and can remember that moment each Thanksgiving, and just smile, well you are doing something right. So even for my MANY non-vegan friends out there reading this - I hope you can add one or two of my plant-based recipes to your feast this year. Maybe try a vegan pie or some veggie stuffing. No matter what other items you have at your table. I support you wherever you are. Whatever your priorities right now. π¦ Adopt-a-Turkey π¦ And if you want some compassion karma points (anyone can do this!) head over to Farm Sanctuary and ADOPT a turkey. It's a pretty cool tradition to keep each year. We adopted Arendelle this year, the "cuddlebug." π Happy Holiday Week π So I hope you all have the best holiday week and I am sending you so much love and a virtual slice of pumpkin pie! Or chocolate, or pecan, if that's more your thing. Big hugs, Kathy πΏ✨
