Hi reader,
You've probably heard by now that you should "make this" or "make that" in order to eat healthier.
But I'll tell you this: there is no one-size-fits-all to the question of what you should make versus what you should buy.
For example: - Would you bake your own bread if you were celiac? No.
- Would you make your own salsa if you were allergic to tomatoes? No.
- Would you make your own granola if you didn't like granola? No.
That's why every family will have different answers.
Plus, both time and money are finite resources. So on top of our own food preferences and dietary requirements, we have to decide what we're willing to spend time making, and what we're willing to spend money on buying.
Before you start trying to make ALL.THE.THINGS from scratch, I encourage to ask yourself two questions:- Will this save me money?
- Is making it any healthier?
For example, I always make chicken stock, salad dressings, and bread myself. Why?If you're not sure where to start, here's a great list of 16 Foods to Make from Scratch. Remember that you don't have to make EVERYTHING on the list, and you may even want to make something that I didn't mention.
We have to balance time, effort, and money, and just because you can make something, doesn't mean you should.
In my current season of life, I'm choosing to NOT make corn tortillas because they're cheap to buy and take me FOREVER to make, LOL!!
Are there any foods YOU choose to make from scratch over buying? Hit "reply" and share them with me!
