You know the saying "You can't understand someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes?" Well, if you've ever left your freezer door open, you know this is 100% true.
Let me tell you what happened.
Our house came with a deep freeze. Two days before we were supposed to leave for our 8 week road trip, my son didn't close one of the doors all the way.
And that's the good news.
There were over a hundred pounds of grass-fed and organic meat to sort through, 2 days until we left and ZERO chance of being able to eat anything we had to cook.
Oh and the smell in the garage? 🤢 The stench of chicken goo and beef juice dripping from the freezer and puddling on the floor in Atlanta in late July is one I'd happily skip. It was awful!
Everyone stopped what they were doing and came out to help. Here's what we did to control the damage.
- Each package was carefully evaluated.
- Frozen was wiped and put back.
- Partially frozen and/or definitely cold was also wiped and put back (per FDA guidelines).
- Room temperature was cooked.
I'm very thankful that we only had to cook 7 lbs of meat, and we didn't have to throw anything away.
