Hello Friends,

Don't believe the name of the dish? It is true, these pedas only need 2 and 1/2 minute in microwave using 5 ingredients in total. These pedas are heavenly!

Peda is also called penda in Gujarati, is a delicious Indian desert. We gift or offer it to friends and relatives when there is some good news like engagement, wedding, birth of baby, buy new house, etc. Recently my son got engaged and I wanted to take Indian sweets to the engagement ceremony. We get many different varieties of Indian sweets in the store but I love to make something which is called mine :). I was thinking about what to make for sweet and I checked out few recipes on internet and decided to give my twist to the recipe, and I am glad I did!! I made 2 boxes full of peda for the engagement day and boxes were empty in no time πŸ˜„. My new daughter and everyone else absolutely loved it!!

Pedas are made using milk solids called mawa but it takes long time to make mawa from the milk. I am using condense milk and milk powder instead. Also pedas are made with different flavour like saffron, elaichi (cardamom), rose water, vanilla, chocolate. I wanted to create something different which may not have done by anyone, so decided to use nutella (chocolate hazelnut) spread for the flavour and I think that was the best decision I made! Everyone who just wanted to taste a small piece, end up eating the full peda πŸ˜€πŸ˜‚ . No leftover 😏

This recipe makes about 25 pedas depending on the size of each peda.

Preparation Time: 10 minutes

Cooking Time: 2 1/2 minutes

Ingredients:

1 tin (300ml) sweet condense milk
1 1/2 cup milk powder
1 1/2 tbsp ghee
3 tbsp nutella spread (chocolate hazelnut spread)
Roasted split cashew for garnishing

Procedure
1. In a big microwave safe bowl, take 1 1/2 tbsp melted ghee (clarified butter).

2. Sieve milk powder so there are no lumps. Add condense milk and milk powder to the melted ghee and mix everything well. Microwave this mixture for one minute. Take it out and mix with spoon. Microwave for one more minute and take out the mixture. This time add 3 tbsp. nutella and mix well. Microwave for 30 seconds more. I have 1200 watt microwave and it look 2 1/2 minutes. If you see the consistency is not thick enough to make balls, then microwave for 30 seconds more. You will see mixture look like what you see in the below picture. You can also prepare this on gas stove. Use heavy bottom pan and cook on low to medium heat until mixture leaves the sides of the pan.

3. Let the mixture cool down slightly, then make small balls using both hands. Rub ghee on the palm before you start to make peda. You can also make a big roll and then make cut with knife or make each balls separately. Press with the finger or I used one end of the rolling pin to make a small hole which is half the depth of peda so you can stick cashew in it.

4. Decorate with cashew in the middle. Voila...and pedas are ready! Pack in nice gift box. You can also use pistachio or almond for garnishing. If someone is allergic to nuts then make the design on top by pressing mould or with fork.

Chocolate peda

The nutella spread has hazelnut which gives nutty flavour to this delicious peda. If you don't have chocolate hazelnut spread then you can use melted chocolate or make it with saffron and cardamom. This peda can be kept in refrigerator for few days. You won't know how easy and scrumptious it is until you try it. Share it with family and friends and spread the love!
