Good morning friend! Is it Friday? NO? It's Saturday you say?? How can that be? It seems like I was just sitting down here to write you YESTERDAY and already a week plus a DAY have passed? How time passes is craziness! Anyway, here comes Father's Day this weekend! We are cooking hamburgers and hot dogs out on the grill with baked beans, potato salad (I've never shared this recipe, but I see that I should), chips, dip (haven't shared this either) and fudge pie for dessert with ice cream. It's an easy thing to throw together for a crowd and stuff everyone loves. Maybe you need some other suggestions for things to serve for your Father's Day gathering? Do dad's universally love crab cakes? Because this recipe is easy, fast and I'm not kidding, LOVED by everyone who eats crab cakes. Can't fail recipe. How about Salmon on the grill in foil? It couldn't be easier and you can pair it with fresh green beans in foil on the grill (NO MESS cooking, my favorite!) If not either of those, I know he will love this crockpot pot roast, just add some potatoes and carrots in the last 4 hours of cooking and you'll have a perfect meal! Need other recipes? No problem, just click over to Loaves and Dishes and use the search bar to find what you need - you'll be cooking in no time! _________________________ HOT COOKING TIP OF THE WEEK I don't want to be gross here, but I think I should tell you, a sponge used to clean the dishes, sink and countertops can get pretty grimy in no time at all. I was just reading an article over at Cooks Illustrated about all of the germs present in a damp sponge and how important it is to squeeze out a sponge before you are done. This lessens the bacteria by a boatload. Personally, I use a kitchen washcloth (dishrag, as we call it) and a metal scrubby but I know many of you use a sponge. Here's what Cooks Illustrated says are three ways for keeping a sponge clean...
And by the way, I realize that this isn't actually a cooking tip, but it IS a kitchen tip because I don't want you to make yourself or your guests or your family sick with a yucky sponge. So, there's that. ____________________________ THREE LITTLE THINGS I'm trying to be more thankful in my day to day life and listing a few of those small things here to hopefully remind you to be more thankful too. I find that being grateful for small things helps me to be mindful of the larger things too. With gratefulness comes humility and that is all good stuff.
__________________________ A FINAL WORD Last week I said that I have a copy of the book that I wrote a chapter in to give away. I've sent an email this morning to the winner and am waiting for a reply. If for some reason, that person doesn't reply, I'll pick someone else. If you get an email from me, please answer it, I might have a book for you! :) With that,I want to say how lucky I am to know you. YOU are a blessing to me and I appreciate you so very much.
