COVID-19 forced millions of women around the world out of the workforce. Globally, women lost twice as many jobs as men, according to estimates from McKinsey. At the same time, the pandemic has put front and center issues around family care and unpaid work.

"Women have been on the forefront of the response to the pandemic... and it's not just that we had suddenly realized that 70% of the health workers in the world are women, but also because women have had to stay at home. And by staying at home with men, we have seen patriarchy at its best, all the stereotypes, all what women are supposed to do and men are supposed to do, came into being questioned by staying at home together." --Dr. Nadine Gasman Zylbermann, President, National Institute for Women of Mexico

Now, as governments contemplate plans to restore their economies, some are looking beyond stimulus packages at structural changes to address the systemic barriers that have allowed women’s participation in the economy to stagnate for decades.

Join Foreign Policy on June 28th to hear from the global thought leaders who are driving the post-COVID gender-intentional approach to rebuilding the global economy. The discussion will examine the gender impacts of the pandemic and explore the opportunities for meaningful impact for women and girls.

Speakers will include:
  • Jennifer Klein, Co-Chair and Executive Director, White House Gender Policy Council
  • Anila Denaj, Minister of Finance and Economy, Albania
  • Anita Zaidi, President, Gender Equality and Director, Vaccine Development and Surveillance, and Director, EDD, Gates Foundation
  • Dr. Nadine Gasman Zylbermann, President, National Institute for Women of Mexico
