Press Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 3, 2021 CONTACT: Lynn Sutfin, 517-241-2112, SutfinL1@michigan.gov Wayne County Health Department awarded grant to LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) awarded more than $57,000 to the Wayne County Health Department to expand residential lead hazard control services to eligible households with a Medicaid-enrolled resident. "We must be proactive in making sure lead hazards are removed from all Michigan homes," said Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, chief medical executive and chief deputy director for health at MDHHS. "These funds allow communities to prevent further lead exposure for our children who are at highest risk." Funding is provided through the Michigan's Children's Health Insurance Program. The grant was awarded to the Wayne County Health Department to address residential lead hazards in Highland Park. Capacity building activities taking place before Sept. 30, 2021 include, but are not limited to, the following efforts:
Subsequent funding will be provided in the following fiscal year to expand lead abatement services including permanent removal, enclosure or encapsulation of lead-based paint and lead dust hazards for eligible residences. # # #
