Press Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 25, 2021  CONTACT: Bob Wheaton, 517-241-2112, wheatonb@michigan.gov MDHHS seeks applicants to provide child abuse, neglect prevention programs LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Children's Trust Fund is seeking applications for projects to deliver services to prevent child abuse and neglect. The Direct Service Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Program supports local or statewide public, private or nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations with community-based, secondary prevention programs and services designed to promote strong, nurturing families and prevent child abuse and neglect. Grants funded through this program should target families with risks or challenges that, if left unattended, could result in parenting and child development difficulties, creating a risk of child abuse or neglect. The Children's Trust Fund expects to issue approximately eight awards for a total of $400,000. "MDHHS and the Children's Trust Fund are committed to protecting the safety and well-being of children and keeping families together," said Demetrius Starling, executive director of the department's Children's Services Agency. "Programs based in local communities are crucial to preventing child abuse and neglect." Funded applicants will receive technical assistance that will include help with program start-up, reporting requirements and barriers to program implementation. Applicants must submit applications for initial review and endorsement by a Children's Trust Fund local council. The deadline to submit applications electronically through the MI E-Grants program for this initial review is June 16, 2021, at 3 p.m. Applications endorsed by local councils will be forwarded to MDHHS by June 30. The program period is from Oct. 1, 2021, through Sept. 30, 2022.
