| The COVID-19 pandemic has illustrated vast differences in COVID-19 risk and outcomes, particularly among people of color. Public health professionals, health care providers, educators, and others have long known that a person's social, economic, and physical environment shape their health more than any other single factor. All of these contributors to health are affected by structural racism in policies, programs, and practices. We have to change the circumstances that create gaps in opportunity to be healthy and in health outcomes. Our new Office of Health Equity will work to combat inequities and systemic racism in a coordinated, strategic, and proactive manner. Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion We are also actively seeking candidates to apply to join our executive management team as the DHS Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. The director will report directly to DHS Secretary Karen Timberlake. We are looking for a bold strategist with an entrepreneurial spirit who excels at building networks and consensus around diversity, equity, and inclusion and is committed to making Wisconsin a better place for us all. The Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion will have the rare opportunity to build a new office from the ground-up and to quickly move forward with implementing the strategy. They will have autonomy in setting the direction of the office, building their team, and managing a budget that will support this important work. Our future leader will shape the future of our agency's diversity, equity, and inclusion work both within the internal workforce culture and for the externally facing work of the agency.
