Statistics in Schools brings subjects to life using real-world Census Bureau data to create materials for use year after year at all grade levels. Statistics Are Everywhere! April is Mathematics and Statistical Awareness Month. You can find statistics everywhere—on baseball fields, road trips, and even on your smartphone. Learn how Statistics in Schools is bringing awareness to the classroom about the value and use of data in our everyday lives. We offer a variety of classroom resources with real-world Census Bureau data to help introduce students to interesting and relevant statistics in a kid-friendly way. There's something available for every grade level! This newsletter provides a sampling of our math activities, Fun Facts, and a warm-up activity with data related to April observances.
Looking at Numbers of Births Using a Line Graph is a fun activity to familiarize elementary students with creating graphs with large numbers and how to determine the appropriate scale.
Our What Is a Statistical Question? activity helps middle school students understand the concept of variability within a data set—and how to distinguish the difference between statistical and other types of questions.
Older students might find interest in learning about national median earnings with our Differences in Earnings Across Sex and Educational Attainment: Comparing Box Plots activity. This activity has students interpret box plots that represent median earnings based on educational attainment.
