This past year, you guys have LOVED when I’ve shared my capsule kitchens. I first shared my spring capsule and just a few weeks ago, my fall capsule. Today I’m back with my holiday version, because this is a huge part in planning for me. It’s a bit different from my other two, because this season focuses a lot more on hosting than regular life! Having ingredients ready to go and having my kitchen ready is essential for the season. I am obsessed with this time of year, but mostly because I want my kids to love it as much as I do. I want them to have a magical childhood Christmas, and when they look back on this time - I want them to think of it as fondly as I do of my childhood. You’re probably thinking… What on earth does this have to do with a capsule kitchen? And I’m going to tell you. A huge part of creating these family memories, tradition and heritage include the five senses. Taste and smell, especially! Those two things are so tied to memory and they are a big part of why I love hosting my family and spending time together. The traditions! The nostalgia! I loathe any stress around the holidays because I don’t want to ruin the magic. So this is how I keep the stress to a minimum in my very, very type A brain. Below is my carefully chosen list of things, errr… ingredients! They can be mixed and matched in a pinch to make different dishes. Pantry ingredients I plan to have on hand for the next eight weeks:Fresh holiday flavors: rosemary, thyme, sage, apples, oranges, cranberries, pomegranate Sweet stuff: maple syrup, (hot) honey, apple cider, brown sugar, nut butter, dates, cinnamon, vanilla paste, chocolate, pecans, walnuts, almonds. Entertaining must haves: refrigerated puff pastry, brie, goat cheese, caramelized onion jam, fig jam, crackers, crostini. Savory staples: dijon mustard, grainy mustard, parmesan cheese, olives, balsamic vinegar, chili crisp, flaky salt. For example, just a few of the options that I can throw together with these ingredients. I’ll do a more in depth post on this specific part if you want!
I love having these ingredients in my pantry because they make the season easier, especially when it comes to entertaining and last-minute gifting. If you need a quick little gift or treat for someone the next day, you can throw together some spiced candied nuts or a chocolate bark, even a holiday trail mix. If you want to host last minute guests or have people over spontaneously, these ingredients allow for multiple quick apps! Baked brie with jam, goat cheese with jam, puff pastry tarts. These take minutes to put together! And, if you just want a festive and cozy weeknight meal for your family, maybe post tree decorating? You could throw together a maple dijon chicken cobbler and a fun pomegranate orange soda float.
