Thousands of Virginians, from Norfolk to Roanoke, joined the nationwide "Hands Off!" protests against the Trump administration on Saturday.

At the Virginia State Capitol, thousands rallied and chanted, "We've had enough! We've had enough!" along with other slogans.

In Charlottesville, roughly 4,000 demonstrators marched along US 29, calling on the administration to protect entitlement programs and end deportations.

At Elmwood Park in Roanoke, as many as 1,000 people joined the protest. "I think this is the largest political rally of any kind I've ever seen in this city, and I've lived here for quite a time," one resident said.

President Trump approved a major disaster declaration for 11 counties in Southwest Virginia that were hit by heavy rain and flooding in mid-February.

Even before FEMA aid was approved, the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the state government had announced funding. "We will continue to seek every recovery resource necessary to support Virginians that have been adversely impacted by these storms," Gov. Glenn Youngkin said.

So far, federal aid has only been approved for public assistance, and the governor stated that a final determination on individual assistance is still needed.

Youngkin initially requested help for three counties on Feb. 16 and soon expanded the request to cover eight more in the region, which has endured two bouts of severe weather since September.

The "Great Eight," Alex "Ovi" Ovechkin, scored the 895th goal of his NHL career to pass Wayne Gretzky and claim the top spot on the all-time list. The record-setting tally came with the Capitals on a power play.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and Gretzky were both on hand for the game in New York against the Islanders. "Wayne, you'll always be the Great One, and you had a record that nobody ever thought would be broken," Bettman said. "But Alex, you did it. You've been amazing."

The 39-year-old Ovechkin was the top pick in the 2004 NHL draft and is playing his 20th season with Washington—the same number of years that Gretzky played.

The Caps lost the game 4–1 but lead the Metropolitan Division.
