Four North Carolina House Republicans have sponsored a bill to raise teacher salaries by 22%, boosting starting pay from $41,000 to $50,000, and salaries for teachers with 25-plus years of experience from $55,950 to $68,230.

Instructors with a National Board Certification would receive a 12% monthly bump. Teachers with a master's degree would get $126 more per month and teachers with doctorates would get $253 more per month.

Certified school nurses would get a 10% raise and counselors with a master's degree or higher would be paid an extra $100 per month. School psychologists, speech pathologists, and audiologists would get a 10% raise plus $350 more per month.

House Bill 192 has growing bipartisan support and proposes covering the pay raises by appropriating $1.597 billion in recurring funds.

State Supreme Court marshals are investigating a hate mail campaign targeting Republican North Carolina Supreme Court candidate Jefferson Griffin and his family.

Griffin, his wife Katye, and their two young children have endured continuing harassment—including numerous death threats—since Griffin, who currently serves as a state Court of Appeals judge, filed a lawsuit challenging over 65,000 ballots cast in the general election.

Democratic North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Allison Riggs currently leads Griffin by 734 votes.

The Griffins' attorney said Katye is afraid to leave her home and babysitters are afraid to come to the house due to the alleged threats, which have been mailed to the family's eastern North Carolina home as they grieve the death of their daughter, Maggie, who was born prematurely last month.

DigitalNC, a blog maintained by the North Carolina Digital Heritage Center, released digital primary sources that provide documentation of the Blue Ridge Parkway's history.

The set includes digitally scanned newspapers, photographs, maps, postcards, and other documentation tracing the parkway's initial creation and construction during the 1930s and the building of its final "missing link"—the Linn Cove Viaduct—decades later.

DigitalNC also provides a directory for teaching and learning, information on managing digital collections, and instructions on becoming a contributing partner here.
