| Wednesday, December 18, 2024 | | Good morning! On this day in 1943, saxophonist Bobby Keys was born in Slaton. He performed with Lynyrd Skynyrd, John Lennon, Eric Clapton, and other prominent musicians, but he is best remembered for touring with the Rolling Stones for more than 45 years. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones hasn't had the best year, and a Texas magazine is rubbing salt in the wound by naming him its "Bum Steer of the Year." Check out the story in The Roundup, and let us know what you think about the selection! Today's sponsor is Organixx, offering collagen products to help promote healthy skin and hair. Groundwater provides over 55% of the state's water supply, with agriculture being the biggest consumer. Nearly every county in Texas is affected by groundwater contamination. The most common source is gas stations, which make up a third of all cases. Contamination can persist for years or indefinitely. While some sites are remediated, groundwater use is restricted at others. Public water systems must test for contaminants regularly, but private water wells are exempt from those regulations. State agencies notified 34 local authorities and 289 private well owners about potential contamination last year. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality provides a map of active contamination sites. | Pro Fisherman and YouTuber Arrested Pro fisherman and YouTuber Ben Milliken surrendered to Nacogdoches County authorities last week after he was charged with fishing tournament fraud. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) officials determined Milliken did not have a valid fishing license when he caught a 13.15-pound bass from Lake Naconiche in February. Milliken reported the catch to the department's Toyota ShareLunker Program, which awards prizes up to $10,000 to anglers who catch 13-pound largemouth bass or larger between January 1 and March 31. TPWD has accused Milliken of knowingly falsifying his entry form. He was disqualified from the program and cited for fishing without a license. Milliken, who has over 570,000 YouTube subscribers, called the incident a "complete misunderstanding" and promised to address the allegations publicly at a later time. | Jerry Jones Receives Bum Steer Award Texas Monthly has named Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones its Bum Steer of the Year, an award it has given since 1975 and describes as its "highest dishonor." The magazine highlighted some of this year's most embarrassing moments for the 82-year-old owner and general manager, including the Cowboys' lopsided 48-32 loss to the Green Bay Packers in the first round of the playoffs in January, a spat with two local radio hosts in October following the Cowboys' blowout 47-9 loss to the Detroit Lions at home, and Jones's comments dismissing criticism of sun glare at AT&T Stadium in November. While politicians are usually the recipients of the ignominious award, Jones previously shared it with the Texas Longhorns in 2010, when he fired Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips in the middle of a 6-10 season. | | Is your neck drooping, hair dry and flaky, or maybe your nails are getting brittle?
