Hey there reader!
While you're getting ready to start your smoothie challenge, I thought I'd pop in a chat quickly about blenders.
It's okay If you don't have a high-speed blender as you begin; I don't want that to stop you from this smoothie challenge. You can likely use what you have available or maybe borrow one. I don't expect you to run out and purchase an expensive blender to do this live smoothie challenge.
However, if you make smoothies a part of your daily routine, then I recommend acquiring a high-speed blender in the future.
Since I have a lot of smoothie-making experience, I can offer some tips and advice for purchasing the best blender for smoothies.
Before I jump into blender purchasing tips, I recommend calling some friends and family members to see if anyone has a high-speed blender collecting dust that you can take off their hands for cheap. You'd be surprised how many people have a Vitamix sitting in the basement.
The high-speed blender I have is the Vitamix 5200 Standard blender, and this cost just under $500 When you go to the Vitamix website type 5200 into the search bar and it will come right up.
I got this ten years ago after going through about five other cheap blenders.
I use it daily to make smoothies, sometimes more if I blend smoothies for my kids. Not one time has this Vitamix failed me. Ten years later, it still crushes frozen fruit and greens perfectly to blend a smooth smoothie.
Yes, it's pricey and an investment, but if you're planning on making smoothies a part of your daily routine, I strongly recommend purchasing a high-speed blender like Vitamix.

There are other high-speed blenders, but the Vitamix 5200 is the one I've used for the last ten years, so I feel most comfortable talking about and recommending it. Another great way to research the best high-speed blender is to ask in the OYS Facebook group; you'll get many helpful reviews and buying tips there.
If you're on the fence about what blender brand to purchase, there are a few things to consider when purchasing a blender for smoothies.
How often will I use it?
If you're purchasing a blender to make smoothies daily, it's essential to get a blender with a strong motor that'll hold up to a lot of usage. Like any appliance, the more you use it, the more wear and tear it will get. Also, just like everything else – the higher the quality, the longer it'll last.
Now, if you're unsure how often you'll make a smoothie or don't foresee using it all the time, you might not need something with a strong motor.
Can it crush ice and frozen fruits effectively?
I know it seems this should be a primary function of all blenders, and it is.
However, some lower-quality blenders struggle to crush ice and frozen fruit effectively, so you have to add them in batches. Also, crushing and pulverizing ice takes a lot out of a motor. So, again, if you plan to make smoothies regularly, this is something to think about.
Does it blend all the ingredients into a smoothie without leaving chunks?
A common complaint with smoothies, especially green smoothies, is leftover pieces of kale, spinach, or other greens after blending. Drinking a thoroughly blended smoothie is a lot more palatable than drinking a smoothie with chunks.
Is there a warranty?
Most blenders come with some warranty from their manufacturer. However, the details and length of that warranty vary greatly depending on the blender. Some only last a few months, and others last for years. Of course, the more money spent typically dictates the warranty length.
Vitmax has a FREE 7- 10-year warranty, depending on the blender. This is awesome because they stand behind their product. And, just for the record, in 10 years, I've never used that warranty, and I make smoothies daily.
Also, all the Vitamix owners I know have had their Vitamix blenders for 6-7+ years with no issues. So, while they are in a higher price range, you will undoubtedly get your money's worth.
Those are my thoughts on blenders. As I said, start with what you have, but if you make smoothies a part of your daily routine, then I recommend investing in a durable high-speed blender like Vitamix.
I'm more than happy to answer any questions. Hit reply and ask or post your question in the OYS Facebook Group.
Have a great day!
