Welcome back to my monthly newsletter. This coming month means beautiful spring flowers, Easter and Passover, and a new Sally's Baking Challenge recipe. 🌸
But first, let's take a look at some of March's highlights.
This recipe for Irish Soda Bread goes viral every March, but it's truly a year round favorite because it's as delicious as it is easy. This is a quick bread that does not require any yeast. It's dense, yet soft and has the most incredible crusty exterior straight from the oven.

"I have never left comments for online recipes, even for recipes that have become staples in our home. But had to do it for this one. Tried (Irish Soda Bread) at restaurants, bakeries, etc and didn't see the appeal, kinda blah…until now. This recipe was easy, detailed notes a huge help and the finish project was FABULOUS!! The measurements in cups and grams helped too! Used my scale and had like two dishes to clean. Baked it in the cast iron pan for 50 minutes, and it was delish! My family ate the entire loaf, sadly no leftovers. Thank you for sharing this recipe and the story behind it. I will think of your grandma every time I make it...★★★★★" - Kim
I publish a new challenge recipe every month on the 1st. Participating is completely optional and just something exciting to add to your month! If you love the monthly challenges, make sure you sign up for Sally's Baking Challenge emails (separate from our regular email list) so you never miss a challenge recipe or announcement.
Here's what 2 participants said about the Citrus Cake:
"I wouldn't say I'm much of a cake person, but this recipe makes me want to become a cake person!! It is delicious and worth the work! I think next time I'm going to try it as cupcakes. ★★★★★" - Britt
"Terrific cake for spring! The frosting is so delicious-I'm dreaming about other recipes it might go well with. It's got the tanginess of cream cheese, but lightness of whipped cream - absolutely perfect. The recipe looks intimidating with lots of steps, but is really straightforward and easy to follow. Making the curd one day before made it more manageable time wise. ★★★★★" - Kate
Here's What You've Been Baking
My team and I love seeing my recipes in your kitchen. (Many readers share recipe photos on the Facebook page & in the Facebook group.)
This recipe was originally published 6 years ago, but I made it a couple times in March and just added new photos and better instructions to the post! The cake is rich, tender, and flavorful just like my original carrot cake recipe (pictured next) and rippled through each slice is a creamy swirl of cheesecake.
"This is my go-to banana bread recipe now! It is always a crowd favorite and so many people have asked me for the recipe. Perfect amount of moisture — the sour cream goes a long way (and sometimes I sub greek yogurt which works just as well) ★★★★★" - Casey
