Today is Child Tax Credit Awareness Day U.S. Census Bureau partners and supporters were critical to helping us reach hard-to-count and hard-to-reach populations for the 2020 Census. As trusted voices, you brought the message of the 2020 Census to your audiences in a culturally relevant way. Many of the same communities you helped us reach for the 2020 Census are key audiences for another important message: Low-income families with children are eligible for major tax relief through the Child Tax Credit. In the spirit of collaboration, we wanted to share this important information on behalf of our federal government colleagues. Today, Monday, June 21, is Child Tax Credit Awareness Day. Join government leaders and national and community organizations across the country in raising awareness of the Child Tax Credit today and in the days and weeks ahead. Spread the word through calls, text messages, social media or announcements of future efforts to promote awareness and sign-ups. The Child Tax Credit is part of the American Rescue Plan and aims to help families raising children make ends meet. Experts estimate the new Child Tax Credit has the potential to cut child poverty in half. Who is eligible for the child tax credit? Starting on July 15 and through the rest of the calendar year, payments will be made monthly at $250 per child between 6-17 years old or $300 per child under 6 years old. All working families will get the full credit if they make up to $150,000 for a couple or $112,500 for a family with a single parent (also called head of household). What do families need to do to receive payments? If families filed their 2020 taxes this year or filed 2019 taxes last year, or used the IRS "Non-Filer Portal" to get a stimulus check last year, they don't need to do anything. Didn't file taxes in the last 2 years? There's one step to start getting Child Tax Credit payments. Resources to Support Your Outreach |
