FP-This-Week-tighter

Welcome to This Week. In the run-up to the 2021 U.N. Climate Change Conference in November, FP Analytics has released a new Special Report: “Toward Deep Decarbonization.” This report, now available to all Insider subscribers, explores the status of technologies for deep decarbonization and the trade and investment opportunities they bring.

The report identifies batteries and hydrogen as two promising technologies that can enable economy-wide decarbonization as they allow low-cost renewable electricity to be stored and used to reduce or eliminate emissions. Also, financial firms and the courts are quietly creating the conditions to fight climate change. Read FP columnist Adam Tooze’s new argument “Can Elites Start the Climate Revolution?” on this development.

Next, Foreign Policy, in partnership with the Doha Forum, has launched a new podcast, Global Reboot. FP’s editor in chief, Ravi Agrawal, engages in some blue-sky thinking with world leaders and policy experts on how we can emerge from the crisis better than before. Notable guests include U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry; Ashish Jha, dean of Brown University’s School of Public Health; and Hanan Abdul Rahim, dean of Qatar University’s College of Health Sciences.

Finally, don’t forget to register for our virtual dialogue on predicting the next global supply chain disruption. A panel of leading experts from the national security, intelligence, and trade communities will take a critical look at the new frontier of global monitoring and risk management on June 9 at 11 a.m. EDT. The panelists will explore new tools and technologies that could help strengthen supply chain resilience.

Thank you for reading.

FP Analytics SPECIAL REPORT
Toward Deep Decarbonization
Transformational technologies essential to the clean energy transition

Some 70 percent of today’s carbon dioxide emissions belong to countries with net-zero commitments, but tangible policy actions to those ends continue to fall short. Batteries and hydrogen have emerged as two promising technologies for enabling this next level of economy-wide deep decarbonization. This FP Analytics’ Special Report examines the state of the technology, investment trends, and strategic collaborations that are driving decarbonization in some of the hardest-to-abate sectors.

Foreign Policy’s wide collection of Special Reports, each of which takes a deep dive into critical issues underlying U.S. and global foreign policy, is one of the benefits of FP Insider, a subscription service designed exclusively for global affairs professionals. Subscribe or upgrade today.

Our world’s greatest policy challenges reimagined.

Introducing Global Reboot, a Foreign Policy podcast in partnership with the Doha Forum. In each episode, we look at one big global challenge in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and imagine what the world would look like if international leaders turned the crisis into an opportunity.

In the latest episode of Global Reboot, FP editor in chief Ravi Agrawal interviews Ashish Jha and Hanan Abdul Rahim on how COVID-19 will shape health care systems in the future. What lessons have we learned on how to respond to global health challenges, and what can we do to prepare for the next pandemic?
