STATS FOR STORIES (SFS)

Today begins Multiracial Heritage Week. June is American Housing Month, Caribbean-American Heritage Month, Dairy MonthGreat Outdoors Month, LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, and Ocean Month. The Atlantic Hurricane Season began June 1st and runs through November.

Multiracial Heritage Week: June 7-14

The 2019 American Community Survey estimated the U.S. "Two or More Races" population at 11,308,895 — up from 8,398,368 in 2010, based upon self-identification.

American Housing Month: June

The 2019 American Community Survey counted 139.69 million housing units, up 1.15 million from 2018, and up 7.90 million from 131.79 million in 2010.

National Caribbean-American Heritage Month: June

According to the 2020 International Data Base, the three most populous Caribbean countries were: Haiti (11.1M), Cuba (11.1M), and the Dominican Republic (10.5M).

National Dairy Month: June

Since 1992, the total value of shipments of U.S. dairy product manufacturing peaked in April 2014 at $10.8B and by March 2020 stood at $10.7B.

Great Outdoors Month: June

The 2016 National Survey of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation counted more than $157 billion in expenditures for wildlife-related recreation.

LGBTQIA+ Pride Month: June

The 2019 American Community Survey estimated there were 980,276 same-sex couple households in the U.S., and of them, 58% (568,110) were married couples.

National Ocean Month: June

There are 255 coastline counties in the U.S. located in three regions across 23 states: the Atlantic Ocean (129), Gulf of Mexico (56), and Pacific Ocean (70).
