Mississippi COVID-19 Update June 22, 2021 Vaccinations More than 958,000 people have now been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in Mississippi. Vaccination is proving to be highly effective at controlling COVID-19 illness and transmission in the state. NEW: Special vaccination sites are coming this Wednesday through Saturday only to locations in Jasper, Jefferson Davis and Kemper counties. See schedule All Mississippians aged 12 or older are now eligible for vaccination. Find a free walk-in or drive-through vaccination at an MSDH vaccination site. Drop in, or make an appointment ahead of time. Deaths reported in the past week 29 COVID-19 related deaths reported to MSDH or determined from death certificate reports over the last seven days, as of 3 p.m. yesterday. Total Mississippi COVID-19 cases 320,174 Total Mississippi COVID-19 deaths 7,390 COVID-19 Variants Some COVID-19 variants are more transmissible than standard COVID-19, and can cause more severe symptoms. Vaccination is effective are reducing the risk of illness from these variants, though. 756 cases of COVID-19 from five major variant strains, including variant strains of concern, have been reported in Mississippi as of June 22. Weekly variant strains report Long-Term Care Facilities Current active outbreaks: 10 An outbreak is considered any confirmed COVID-19 case among LTC facility residents or employees. It's the standard way of following the course of a disease in a population. The black average line helps identify upward or downward trending. (In the few cases where date of illness has not yet been determined, testing date is used.) Since we are still receiving reports of illnesses that began up to two weeks ago, expect the more recent dates on this chart to change. Deaths by Date of Occurrence What You Can Do Be vaccinated.
