Ever heard of a shrub? ๐Ÿ’

Hi There,

Have you ever heard of a shrub? Not the kind you plant, but the kind you drink?

It's a type drinking vinegar that's infused with herbs and fruit, and the combination of sweet + sour is brilliantly refreshing. In early America, before super-sweet sodas became popular, shrubs and drinking vinegars were often consumed during the summer months.

And I think you'll like making them, too.

Here's why:

  • They're easy (and fun) to make. For this recipe, you'll mash cherries with herbs, then cover them with vinegar and wait.  Within about 2 week's it'll be ready and all you have to do is mix with a sweetener and serve. Easy.
  • They're kid-friendly. Kids like the fruit-forward, sweet-sour flavor of shrubs. Plus, they're nonalcoholic, too.
  • They're delicious. This version uses sweet cherries, red wine vinegar, thyme and black pepper - giving the drink a sweet, fruity flavor with an herbal undertone that is just so refreshing.

Let me know if you try it!
