June 2021 The Outdoors are Calling… | | June's calling card is the warmth of the sun against my skin, the smoky lure of the grill, the sound of the trail beneath my feet, the burst of juicy goodness of the berry, just-plucked from the vine—summer is a sensory soiree that makes every one of my senses pay attention. It's so easy to get caught up in the busyness of life, so this month I'm turning my eye outdoors as often as I can. I'm filling my calendar with hikes on local trails where I love to forage for edible flowers, farmers market visits to prepare the season's best plant-based picnics and barbecues for friends and family, tending my backyard garden, and even seizing routine moments, like taking the dogs out or setting the patio table, to stop and watch. I plan to pay attention and appreciate the many gifts of summer, especially the joy I get from the connection between the Earth, nature, and sustainably fueling every adventure with plant-based take-along treats, trail mixes, and picnic foods as well as delicious meals at home made from nature's locally grown and foraged best.
