Article Icon 1Clemency Bid Rejected In "Shaken Baby" Conviction

Robert Roberson, 57, is scheduled to be executed this evening for the 2002 "shaken baby" death of his 2-year-old daughter, a verdict that's been questioned by medical experts in the years since Roberson's conviction.

Roberson maintains his innocence, claiming his daughter died of natural causes. Over 80 state legislators have expressed support for Roberson, and the House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee held a hearing Wednesday about invoking a state law that allows a review of convictions based on "junk science."

Yesterday, the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles declined to recommend clemency for Roberson, and the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals also refused to halt his execution. Gov. Greg Abbott still has the authority to issue a 30-day reprieve.

Roberson was scheduled for execution in 2016, but it was delayed for an evidentiary hearing in which his defense team requested a new trial that was ultimately denied.

Article Icon 1Court Blocks Superintendent's Firing

A Dallas County judge issued a temporary restraining order blocking the Grand Prairie ISD school board from terminating Superintendent Jorge Arredondo for alleged policy violations regarding discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.

Last month, Arredondo was suspended with pay after just a few weeks on the job, prompting the superintendent to sue the district for a "violation of his contractual and constitutional rights."

Specific details about the allegations against Arredondo have not been provided.

The board was set to discuss Arredondo's employment today. A court hearing on the restraining order is scheduled for Oct. 28.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones seemed to threaten the jobs of two radio hosts who asked him questions about the Cowboys' embarrassing 47-9 loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday.

During Tuesday's Shan & RJ show on Dallas radio station 105.3 The Fan, Jones took issue with questions about offseason moves. "This is not your job," Jones said. "I'll get somebody else to ask these questions."

He later said, "If I'm going to be grilled, I don't need it to be by the guys I'm paying." Listen to the interview here.
