Hello friend,
I couldn't help but connect with you on the publication day of The Vegan Week!
If you're a longtime reader, then you might remember that this wasn't an easy book for me to write.
I began working on it just as Covid-19 erupted in the United States and brought with it a long, hard period of social isolation.
I thought that it would be comforting to have a creative project to distract me from what was happening, but the opposite turned out to be true. Anxiety and loneliness do not fuel my creative fires.
I ended up with the worst case of writer's block—or recipe developer's block—that I've ever had.
After pushing my deadline a few times and making my way through many recipe flops, I finally managed to finish the job.
Life imitated art, because writing this book compelled me to find my way back to the meal prep routine that lockdown had interrupted.
My cooking habits became haphazard (and sometimes nonexistent—thank goodness for Gardein meatballs!) during those months.
Working on The Vegan Week, which is a book about make-ahead cooking, reminded me that I become happier, better nourished, and more organized when I put aside some weekend time to prepare meals for the days ahead.
Here's a look at what you can expect from the book.
Super versatile, easy-to-prepare plant proteins (for your bowls, wraps, salads, pastas, and anything/everything)
Colorful bowls (for not-sad work week lunches)
One-pot meals (for when you need cooking to be easy)
Casseroles and sheet pan meals (to savor now and freeze for later)
Desserts (because no week is complete without something sweet)
What you can also expect from the book:
- Answers to common questions about meal prep, including sections on safe freezing, storage, and reheating, storage containers, and more
- Not one, but two user-friendly flowcharts to help you organize your meal prep
- Tips on grocery shopping and stocking your pantry
- Some suggestions on what to make on the fly if you didn't manage to do any meal prep at all
This is not a Type A approach to meal prep, I promise. It's a real-world take on a flexible habit that can help you to eat more delicious, homemade food on a regular basis.
If this book sounds interesting to you, you can order it online:
You can also request the book from your local library.
If you don't see the book on the shelves of your local bookstore and would like to, feel free to reply to this email! I can help to connect someone at the bookstore to my publisher.
If you do end up exploring The Vegan Week, I hope that it will feel a little bit like having a conversation with a friend.
This friend has struggled at times to keep up with cooking when life is tough. And she's learned—through plenty of trial and error—that meal prep is one of the most valuable gifts that she can give her future self.
Thanks for reading and caring, as always. I'll be back soon with a recipe or two!
xo
