It's cookie week!

Hi reader,

Christmas cookies are a big tradition in our home. The kids and I set aside a whole day just to make cookies and decorate them. We look forward to it every year!

We share many cookies as gifts because it's frugal and who DOESN'T like Christmas cookies! And we also eat our fair share of them through the month, too, which can be hard when you're trying to eat less sugar.

Even with our goals to eat less sugar, there was no way we could give up our favorite traditions at Christmas. So I set out to make healthier versions of our favorite cookies with great success.

Yes, they still use sugar, but they use less sugar or sugar that is less refined (like coconut sugar or turbinado).

It's a great happy middle to keep our traditions, eat a little healthier, and still enjoy good treats.

The next two weeks on Crumbs, I'm sharing all my favorite cookie recipes. You can find the full list of them here.

I've shared bits and pieces on the blog of how cookie baking day became such a special tradition in our home. But only recently did I write up the full story and add it to my new eCookbook, Baking Traditions on a Budget.

Interwoven between the recipes of cookies, cakes, and confections are the elements that making baking day so special in our house.
