2022 GLOBAL NUTRITION REPORT: STRONGER COMMITMENTS FOR GREATER ACTION One year ago at the Nutrition for Growth Summit, the U.S. Government made a bold commitment to end malnutrition with an $11 billion investment in global nutrition over 3 years. This week the 2022 Global Nutrition Report was launched to advance continued accountability and action. The report highlights the major commitments that governments, civil society organizations, private sector businesses, donors, international organizations, and academia have made to nutrition. Administrator Power shared, "At last year's Nutrition for Growth Summit, which raised more than $40 billion to prevent and treat malnutrition around the world, 90 percent of the Summit's commitments came from low- and middle-income countries—a clear sign that governments are stepping up to combat malnutrition within their own borders, and that high-income countries must step up as well. That's why, in addition to continuing to lead efforts to fund prevention and treatment for malnutrition, USAID endorses the 2022 Global Nutrition Report, which includes a crucial Accountability Framework that supports efforts to monitor global nutrition commitments, push everyone to contribute their fair share, and hold us all accountable for our commitments." Ensuring the survival and wellbeing of women and children remains a global challenge that good nutrition can help solve. With malnutrition representing the underlying cause of almost half of childhood deaths, it is encouraging that the newly released 2022 Global Nutrition Report shows a large percentage of commitments align with global nutrition targets on maternal, infant, and child nutrition. Amidst the global malnutrition and hunger crisis, collective action and accountability on nutrition have never been more important. This report reaffirms the critical role that all stakeholders have to play in delivering sustainable nutrition outcomes.
