HSE's science is playing a vital role in enabling the new energy vectors being developed and deployed to support the UK's pioneering legislation to decarbonise and become 'net zero' by 2050, with 78% of the reductions required by 2035. For these new energy technologies to be accepted, they must be safe. This year's Annual Science Review showcases just two of the many projects HSE scientists are involved in which are enabling the safe deployment of new energy technologies. Read about how our pre-normative research is yielding valuable data about the safe handling of liquid hydrogen to inform the potential accident prevention and mitigation measures required to enable industry to adopt the technology with more confidence. Read also about the role we're playing in assessing the feasibility of transporting hydrogen, hydrogen-natural gas blends, or carbon dioxide in sections of the UK's gas transmission system.
