The following Global Agricultural Information Network (GAIN) reports were released on Monday, April 12, 2021.
Cambodia: Grain and Feed Update Post revised its marketing year 2020/2021 (MY20/21) estimates of rice harvested area and production at 3,265 thousand hectares (THA) and 9.48 million metric tons (MMT), lower than the USDA official numbers. Post forecasts that MY21/22 harvested area and production will reach 3,310THA and 9.61MMT based on improved weather condition expectation. Post revised its MY20/21 estimates for corn harvested area and production down to 185THA and 895 thousand metric tons (TMT), lower than the USDA official numbers, and forecasts MY21/22 harvested area and production at 190THA and 920TMT based on improved weather condition and increased feed corn demand expectation.
China: China Notifies ASF in Hunan Province Post forecasts that China's fluid milk production will grow slightly due to productivity gains on large-scale farms, but the overall herd size will remain unchanged in 2018. Consumption also continues to grow in 2018, primarily due to Chinese consumer perceptions that dairy products are a health food, especially yogurt. Furthermore, Whole Milk Powder (WMP) and Nonfat Dry Milk, or Skim Milk Powder (SMP) production and consumption forecasts generally remain unchanged.
Croatia provides a unique opportunity for U.S. wine exporters to position their product. U.S. wine exporters should focus their market entry efforts on Zagreb, the nation's capital, where niches exist for medium and higher quality wines.
Post projects milled rice production for market year (MY) 2021/22 at 600,000 metric tons (MT); a five percent increase from the prior year estimate. MY2021/22 imports of milled rice and wheat are projected at 950,000 MT and 1.0 million metric tons (MMT), respectively. Imports of rice are expected to stabilize in view of increasing domestic production. Bakeries are proliferating in the country, and imports of pre-bagged wheat flour is introduced into the mix as prices of flour and flour products soar.
Serbia's Marketing Year (MY) 2021/22 wheat area is forecast at 600,000 hectares (HA), 5 percent higher than the previous year. If the predicted yield of 5 MT/HA is achieved, a wheat production of 3 Million Metric Tons (MMT) would be reached, allowing for exports of up to 1.4 MMT. MY2020/21 corn production is estimated to be record high of 8 MMT, 10 percent higher than the previous year. By the end of MY2020/21, Serbia will likely export 3.4 MMT of corn worth nearly $520 million and regain its position as one of the leading European corn exporters.
Thailand: Oilseeds and Products Annual The gradual economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic is expected to continue to drive up import demand for soybeans in MY2020/21 and MY2021/22. The increased demand for livestock and aqua feed will likely boost soybean meal imports in MY2021/2022 due to insufficient local supplies. MY2021/22 palm oil production is expected to recover from the drought-triggered 13 percent reduction in oil palm production in MY2019/20.
