If you're reading this note, you're already an avid FP reader. But have you been watching FP Live? Our new platform for live journalism features long-form interviews with the world's foremost foreign-policy experts and decision-makers. And if you're an FP subscriber, you get to join in live and ask questions, too.

We recently had on U.S. President Joe Biden's chief medical advisor, Anthony Fauci, who made news by criticizing China's "zero-COVID" policy. Former NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen told FP subscribers that the military alliance overestimated Russia's strength and made a mistake in not extending membership to Ukraine earlier.

In our latest FP Live, the political scientist Ian Bremmer discusses his new book, The Power of Crisis. Bremmer also explains why he thinks Biden should avoid tying his foreign policy to aligning democracies against autocracies. FP subscribers can watch the recording here. While FP Live interviews are usually just for subscribers, we are releasing FP editor in chief Ravi Agrawal's full conversation with Bremmer to readers of FP This Week. Check it out.

Don't forget to browse through our archive of FP Live interviews, where you'll find in-depth discussions with people such as IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. You can also register ahead for forthcoming discussions, ask questions in advance to shape the debate, and join live to watch the interviews before everyone else does. Coming up later this month and in July, we have interviews with U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders's foreign-policy advisor, Matthew Duss; U.S. Ambassador to NATO Julianne Smith; and Russia expert Fiona Hill. Click here to sign up.

FP Live will launch a dedicated new site later this summer. Stay tuned for an even better on-site viewing experience and many more conversations with the world's most important policymakers and thinkers.

New and Noteworthy

  • Your Questions, Answered: In a special edition of FP Live, Matthew Duss, U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders's foreign-policy advisor, will join FP editor in chief Ravi Agrawal for a wide-ranging interview analyzing U.S. foreign policy. • Abortion Rights: With the U.S. Supreme Court apparently poised to overturn abortion rights, Adam Tooze and Cameron Abadi discuss the potential economic impact on women on the latest episode of Ones & Tooze, FP's economics podcast. For more on this topic, check out the new season of Slow Burn, a podcast from our friends at Slate. In the early 1970s, the future of abortion rights was hanging in the balance. Host Susan Matthews tells the forgotten story of those early battles and how they changed the United States. Listen here.
  • America's Iran Follies: FP's Michael Hirsh analyzes how two decades of misjudgments by Washington helped lead Tehran to the nuclear brink. Read more.

Meet the Journalist

Catherine Osborn is the writer of Foreign Policy’s weekly Latin America Brief.

"I'm Catherine Osborn, a journalist based in Rio de Janeiro, where I cover Latin American politics, economics, and culture. Raised in Texas, I've also lived in Mexico and Argentina. Now, I'm thrilled to bring you news and analysis from across the Spanish-Portuguese language divide in Latin America Brief. Each week, the newsletter looks at ongoing trends and power dynamics in the region through the lens of policies and ideas: how Latin American leaders, communities, and companies approach challenges and how they leverage international relations to seek their goals. We also engage with the reporting and scholarship that have people talking as well as news in technology, climate policy, and more."

Read the latest edition of Latin America Brief, which covered the aftermath of the latest, controversial Summit of the Americas, Brazil's response to a disappearance in the Amazon, and the results of Mexico's gubernatorial elections. Sign up to get this briefing emailed to you every Friday.
