Michigan Commission on Services to the Aging planning listening sessions around the state

Next meeting is Friday, June 17 in Huron County

LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Commission on Services to the Aging is seeking input from the public at its listening session in Huron County on Friday, June 17.

Dates and details for other sessions will be announced at later dates in Rochester and Manistee. The commission earlier this year made visits to Grand Rapids and Lansing.

The commission, a 15-member governor-appointed body, advises the governor, Legislature and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) on matters relating to policies and programs for older adults in Michigan.

Each year the Commission on Services to the Aging hosts listening sessions in different areas of the state to give older adults the opportunity to share feedback about issues impacting their lives.

On June 17, the public is welcome to attend the commission's monthly business meeting at 9 a.m. at the Huron County Senior Center, 150 Nugent St., in Bad Axe. The listening session/public hearing will begin at 1 p.m. Anyone wishing to address the commission will be asked to register upon arrival. Each speaker is asked to limit comments to three to five minutes.

"MDHHS and the commission are dedicated to helping older adults live in the setting of their choice while complementing the care provided by their family and friends. It is critical to hear what types of services older adults and their loved ones believe are important to them," said Scott Wamsley, director of the MDHHS Bureau of Aging, Community Living and Supports.

Anyone needing accommodations to attend may contact Kelly Cooper at 517-214-1618 or CooperK6@michigan.gov.
